U.S. Gaming Market – February 2026 Sales Trends

February 2026 brought a noticeable shift in the U.S. gaming market, contrasting sharply with the sluggish January that preceded it. Among the fresh releases, Resident Evil Requiem emerged as the top-selling title for both the month and the year so far.

While exact U.S. sales numbers for Requiem remain undisclosed, Capcom revealed that the game has sold 6 million copies worldwide, marking it as the fastest-selling entry in the franchise’s history.

Despite the influx of new games, overall spending on gaming content in the U.S. barely budged compared to last year. According to a report by Circana, analyzed by Mat Piscatella, total gaming expenditure increased by a mere 1% year-over-year. Content spending held steady, and accessory sales declined by 2%.

Hardware sales told a different story, driven primarily by the Nintendo Switch 2. This console, absent from the market last year at this time, contributed to a 22% surge in hardware revenue, reaching $326 million. The Switch 2’s strong performance compensated for sales drops in other consoles, although the PlayStation 5 still led in both revenue and units sold.

Notably, the Switch 2 is outperforming its predecessor by a significant margin, running 45% ahead in sales during its first nine months on the U.S. market. When comparing both consoles at the nine-month mark—which now includes their respective Black Friday sales—the newer model clearly maintains a higher momentum.

In terms of game content, most categories experienced decreased spending except for non-mobile subscription services, which grew by 27% year-over-year. This was somewhat surprising given the number of new releases in February. Titles like Resident Evil Requiem (No. 1 for the month and year), Dragon Quest VII: Reimagined (No. 9 for February, No. 14 year-to-date), Mario Tennis Fever (No. 11 for February, No. 1 on Switch 2), God of War: Sons of Sparta (No. 14 for February, No. 6 on PlayStation), My Hero Academia: All’s Justice (No. 17), and the Resident Evil Generation Pack (No. 20) all made appearances on the charts.

Interestingly, the Resident Evil Generation Pack—which bundles Resident Evil 7, Village, and Requiem—sold better on the Switch than Requiem alone, ranking No. 4 on the platform compared to Requiem’s No. 6. This suggests a strong appetite for Resident Evil content among Nintendo players.

However, the relative quiet in new releases this February is highlighted when compared to February 2025, which saw major launches like Monster Hunter Wilds (No. 1), Kingdom Come: Deliverance II (No. 2), Civilization VII (No. 3), PGA Tour 2K25 (No. 4), and Avowed (No. 7). The contrast underscores how dynamic last year’s February was in comparison.

There were notable spikes in certain older titles, though. Diablo II: Resurrected jumped from No. 195 last month to No. 13 in February, boosted by the Steam release of its Infernal Edition. Likewise, Doom: The Dark Ages climbed from No. 92 to No. 9 on the PC storefront charts, aided by anniversary sale promotions.

Top titles for February 2026 included Resident Evil Requiem (new), NBA 2K26, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, Minecraft, Helldivers 2, EA Sports FC 26, Battlefield 6, Madden NFL 26, Dragon Quest VII: Reimagined (new), Grand Theft Auto V, Mario Tennis Fever (new), Red Dead Redemption II, Diablo II: Resurrected, God of War: Sons of Sparta (new), Ghost of Yotei, Forza Horizon 5, My Hero Academia: All’s Justice (new), Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Pokémon Legends: Z-A*, and Resident Evil Generation Pack (new).
