The Most Brutal Bosses I Fought in Hollow Knight: Silksong

I stepped back into Pharloom in 2026 thinking my time with the original Hollow Knight had prepared me. I was wrong. Team Cherry did not simply add more health bars or longer attack chains. They crafted a gauntlet of pain that feels personal, precise, and absolutely merciless. After dozens of silk-scarred defeats, I can finally look back at the bosses that turned my confident needle into a trembling sliver of silk.

Sister Splinter: A Rose With Many Thorns

Hornet battling Sister Splinter beneath thorned vines in Hollow Knight: Silksong

Deep in Shellwood, I found a rooted horror hanging above me like a nightmare made of bark and spite. Sister Splinter slams her colossal hands into the ground, and every impact felt like it was designed to crush my confidence. The real cruelty is the combination. Her thorn vines shrink the arena unless I waste time destroying them, and the summoned enemies deal two damage while I am already dancing around massive attacks. I spent most of that fight managing space more than actually fighting her.

Disgraced Chef Lugoli: Cooking Up A Nasty Fight

Some bosses are funny until they ruin you. Disgraced Chef Lugoli throws their body around in a goofy way, but the leech-filled food blobs are no joke. If one of those sticky blobs hits, leeches latch onto me and drain my silk over time. The only way to remove them is binding, which costs precious silk I wanted to save for healing. It became an awful resource puzzle: heal, bind, or die trying to do both.

Widow: Weaving Your Demise In Silk

In Bellhart, the Widow stopped my progress cold. Her bell and silk attacks chain together so rapidly that I rarely had a clean opening. What made her truly brutal is the timing. I could not upgrade my Needle before beating her, so leaving to grow stronger was not an option. I had to learn every rapid swing and silken thread, and she punished every mistake with ringing fury.

Moorwing: Patched To Make It Easier

Hornet fighting the large airborne Moorwing and its unpredictable projectiles

Even after the developers tuned Moorwing to be less nightmarish, this giant airborne monster still had me screaming. The orb projectiles move in ways I could never predict. I joked that I could predict next week's lottery numbers before guessing where those orbs would drift. Add its huge health pool and slow, space-eating movements, and the fight quickly became a long, frustrating dodge-fest.

Groal The Great: Not Bilewater, Anywhere But Bilewater

Hornet confronting Groal The Great in the toxic Bilewater

Bilewater is already one of the most dangerous places in Pharloom, and Groal The Great makes it worse. Before I could even reach the fight properly, I had to clear six waves of enemies every single time I entered his room. Then Groal spews poison across the tight arena and summons even more sickly foes. The overwhelm never stopped. It was not just a boss; it was an endurance exam with bonus rounds.

Last Judge: Act One's Final Skill Check

Hornet engaged with the Last Judge on the Blasted Steps

At the peak of Act One, the Last Judge made me use everything I had learned. The fight itself has giant attacks and dangerous patterns, but the real punishment was the walk back. The Blasted Steps is already brutal when you first arrive, and the nearest bench is minutes away from the arena. Every death meant another long, silent climb full of enemies just to try again.

Grandmother Of Silk: Your Last Challenge

Hornet dueling the final boss Grandmother of Silk amid falling rocks

The queen of Pharloom gave me a true final boss experience. Grandmother of Silk turned rapid screen-covering attacks into a relentless gauntlet. Each new phase made her assaults faster and added falling rocks and bladed attacks. When I finally thought she was close to falling, she threw everything at me at once. That last stretch demanded near perfection, and I loved and hated every second of it.

The First Sinner: Unleashing Punishment

Hornet awakening the terrifying First Sinner in The Slab

In the depths of The Slab, I made the mistake of touching what looked like an ordinary Weaver Statue. The First Sinner erupted into motion with speed that felt incomprehensible. Even after learning her patterns, precision was everything. Worse, she heals herself if I do not punish her fast enough. So the fight stretched on and on, each failed attempt burning another chunk of my resolve.

Savage Beastfly Fights: This Beast Is No Joke

Early in Hunter's March, inside the Chapel of the Beast, I found a giant fly that charged and summoned friends to crowd its tiny room. That first encounter was already tough for an early game fight. The second battle in Far Fields was worse. Lava bubbled below the platforms, the Beastfly summoned more dangerous allies, and it broke the floor to shrink my safe space. Preparation helped, but not enough.

Lost Lace: The Sequel To Absolute Radiance

Hornet facing the true secret final boss Lost Lace with Void power

Lost Lace carried the Hollow Knight tradition of an unhinged secret final boss. She is required for the true ending, but after a few attempts I started questioning whether the ending was worth it. Her attacks are more rapid than any earlier Lace battle, and the power of Void lets her counter me constantly while erupting attacks fill the screen. Every moment demands precision, and every mistake feels final.

Boss Location Why It Hurt
Sister Splinter Shellwood Thorn vines, summoned enemies, giant slams
Disgraced Chef Lugoli Wish boss Leech blobs drain silk
Widow Bellhart Rapid combos, no Needle upgrade yet
Moorwing Airborne arena Unpredictable orbs, huge health
Groal The Great Bilewater Six waves before fight, poison, summons
Last Judge Blasted Steps Long bench run back
Grandmother of Silk Pharloom peak Relentless final phases
The First Sinner The Slab Unreadable speed, self-healing
Savage Beastfly Chapel of the Beast, Far Fields Crowded room, floor breaks
Lost Lace Secret ending Void counters, precision gauntlet

Even now, my hands remember every pattern. Pharloom taught me that pain can be beautiful, and in 2026, Silksong remains the most punishing dance I have ever learned.

That level of dedication is exactly why so many players are patiently waiting for the right moment to start their own Pharloom pilgrimage. Between a crowded release schedule and a wishlist that never stops growing, when to buy matters as much as how to play. Watching store pages for a meaningful discount takes almost as much patience as learning a boss pattern, so I happily handed that job over to this price tracking tool. It watches the price for me and flags the moment the game finally reaches a comfortable range.

Being a fan of brutal, beautiful games means accepting one more truth: there is no reason to pay full price for the privilege of getting crushed. DealNest tracks price drops across major retailers, which gives me one less enemy to fight. The bosses will still be waiting, unimpressed and overleveled, but at least my wallet will survive the encounter.
